NDDOT Starting Salary:
Engineering Technician IV: $5,587 per month*
Engineering Technician III: $5,008 per month*
Engineering Technician II: $4,505 per month*
Engineering Technician I: $4,131 per month*
* We are seeking a detail-oriented CAD Technician to support the planning, design, and delivery of bridge projects for NDDOT. Salary is dependent on experience.
We are looking for a CAD Technician who enjoys solving technical challenges, learning new drafting tools, and collaborating with engineers to bring bridge projects from concept to construction. Whether you’re early in your career or looking to grow your experience in transportation, this role offers hands-on involvement in meaningful projects and opportunities for professional development. As part of our Bridge team, you will work alongside engineers to develop construction plans on a variety of bridge and structural projects. Job Duties Include:
Use computer aided drafting software to detail all components of structures with the end result being the complete set of construction plans.
Read and interpret the designer's design calculations and sketches so they may be drafted into engineering drawings.
Collaborate with experienced engineering professionals and participate in project meetings.
Ensure all plans comply with applicable NDDOT standards, project specifications, and drafting procedures.
Organize and maintain project files, drawing sets, and digital documentation.
Support the preparation of quantity calculations.
Participate in quality reviews to ensure accuracy and consistency of deliverables.
Minimum Qualifications
Engineering Technician IV: 6+ years of related experience; engineering or related college coursework/degree may substitute on a year-for-year basis.
Engineering Technician III: 4+ years of related experience; engineering or related college coursework/degree may substitute on a year-for-year basis.
Engineering Technician II: 2+ years of related experience; engineering or related college coursework/degree may substitute on a year-for-year basis.
Engineering Technician I: High school diploma or GED required with basic understanding of job-related concepts.
All Levels:
Ability to work outdoors in all weather and on uneven/slippery surfaces
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
Valid North Dakota Class D driver’s license
Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) reflecting the required abilities for this position may be substituted for the required work experience on a year-for-year basis. Related MOS codes include Horizontal Construction Engineer (12N), Geospatial Engineer (12Y), Technical Engineer (12T), and Engineering (3E5X1).
We are seeking candidates with a strong interest in construction and engineering, good organizational and communication skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process, required job function screening and reference check.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s degree or technical training in Drafting, Civil Engineering Technology, CAD Technology, or a related field.
Experience with Bentley Open Roads Designer, Open Bridge Modeler, Microstation, or similar design software
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical information
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Positive attitude and willingness to learn
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
