NDDOT Starting Salary: $6,419 / month

The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) is seeking a highly organized, proactive, and mission-driven professional to lead public information and outreach efforts for North Dakota’s Vision Zero initiative. This role plays a critical part in supporting statewide efforts to eliminate motor vehicle crash fatalities and serious injuries through education, media campaigns, stakeholder engagement, and data-driven program management.

Program Administration

Lead all public information (PI) and outreach initiatives for Vision Zero focus areas, including speed management, occupant protection, impaired and distracted driving, child passenger safety, pedestrian and bicycle safety, motorcycle safety, and infrastructure safety.
Manage vendor relationships, overseeing a full-service media firm to:
Identify communication goals and strategies
Conduct market research and develop/distribute media campaigns
Plan and execute public events, news conferences, interviews, and campaign launches
Review and approve media materials and coordinate internal/external approvals
Serve as a Vision Zero spokesperson, conducting media interviews and representing the Highway Safety Division at state and national conferences, meetings, webinars, and workshops.
Develop and maintain PI materials including presentations, website content, reports, news releases, talking points, and ads.
Support strategic projects such as the Crash Memorial Wall and Vision Zero Partner Network.
Guide policy development to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
Provide technical assistance to staff, sub-recipients, and contractors to maintain compliance.
Analyze crash and ancillary data to inform program strategies and measure impact.
Serve on committees, workgroups, and task forces to advance program goals.
Serve as a primary resource for internal and external requests related to Vision Zero.
Maintain strong relationships with local, state, and federal partners to support shared objectives.
Manage contracts and grants:
Solicit, review, and award applications
Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with procurement requirements
Monitor performance via site visits and regular communication
Maintain thorough documentation of sub-recipient activities and outcomes
Conduct program evaluations and prepare required federal reports.
Budget Management

Develop and oversee budgets for assigned Vision Zero programs.
Review and approve financial submissions (vouchers, reports) through the state’s online system.
Monitor spending for compliance with budget authority and allowable cost guidelines.
Evaluate and approve budget modification requests.
Vision Zero Plan Implementation

Support implementation of North Dakota’s Vision Zero Plan by coordinating PI efforts with partner agencies.
Assist in planning and executing the annual Vision Zero Partner Conference.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for safety and a desire to make a positive impact. Must be self-directed, highly organized and able to manage time and priorities effectively, detail-oriented, capable of interpreting data and complying with regulations, and have a demonstrated ability to communicate well with a variety of groups.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree.
Preferred Degrees: Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations.
Four years of work experience leading to a level of knowledge, skill, and ability necessary to work independently in interacting with others, problem solving, decision-making, and meeting established goals through planning, organizing, and controlling work activities.
Requires satisfactory completion of the interview process and a verifiable record of satisfactory performance in previous employment. Employment is contingent upon the results of a criminal background check.
