NDDOT Hiring Salary: $7,243 / month
At the North Dakota Department of Transportation, we owe our success to our people and processes. As a Transportation Engineer III in Design Division, you will serve as the primary project manager on some of the department's most complex and high-priority roadway projects: leading consultant teams, driving decisions, and delivering results that directly shape North Dakota's transportation infrastructure. The ideal candidate is a confident problem solver with strong communication skills, a sharp eye for detail, and experience in roadway design and project delivery. You will bring working knowledge of DOT design standards, environmental documentation, consultant management, ADA/PROWAG compliance, and railroad coordination at at-grade crossings. If you're ready to step into a leadership role that builds the skills for whatever comes next in your career, this is your opportunity. Primary duties associated with this position are as follows:
Lead complex roadway projects end-to-end: serving as the primary project manager and technical authority for consultant-led and internal design projects, from scoping and schedule management through bid delivery.
Direct and review consultant work: evaluate environmental documents, plans, contract scopes, fees, and billing statements to ensure accuracy and conformance with DOT standards and specifications.
Assist with ADA/PROWAG review: conduct compliance reviews, maintain the ADA Transition Plan and Standard Drawings, and respond to public and legal inquiries on accessibility requirements.
Coordinate railroad at-grade crossing work: assist with securing permits and agreements with railway companies and developing special provisions that meet each railroad's requirements.
Support division-wide engineering efforts: assist with preliminary engineering studies, environmental reports, utility coordination, and cross-divisional collaboration as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field
Four years of professional-level roadway design or civil engineering work experience, or
Two years of professional-level roadway design or civil engineering work experience and a Master's degree or passing of PE and
Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, and
Requires a class D driver’s license for travel to meetings and project locations.
Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process and reference check.
